About Your Counselor
I am passionate about supporting teens and adults on the autism spectrum. My interest in autism began 30 years ago when I was a teen helping out in my mother’s kindergarten classroom. I worked with a boy on the spectrum. My connection with him and his response to me was very meaningful and sparked an Ashland High School senior project on the topic, a job in an autism clinic, 15 years as a teacher and my counseling career. While autism is my area of expertise, it is also a passion. It is incredibly meaningful to me to be able to support these individuals as they find their voice, their place in society and realize that their unique skill set has much to offer the world.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Education from Concordia University, Irvine. Coursework and areas of focus included Autism Spectrum Disorder, a Spanish minor, multicultural approaches in the educational setting, and child/adolescent development.
I also hold a Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in Minnesota. Coursework focus included child, adolescent and adult psychological development, Autism Spectrum Disorder research, best practices for treating mental health disorders, food addiction research and multicultural approaches to counseling.
